Media Blasting

Surface Preparation is the most important step to achieving a high-quality paint job. Here at Palmetto Restorations we start our projects with low-pressure Plastic Media Blasting. Sand-blasting is too forceful (60 to 100 psi), and can cause material surface damage, heat warping, pitting, and stretching. Plastic Media Blasting uses lower pressures (15 to 40 psi) and the plastic media is safe for most surfaces including steel, aluminum, fiberglass, and many composites. Plastic Media quickly and effectively removes old paint, oxidation, excess filler and surface rust. This ensures our Body and Fabrication Technicians can identify the imperfections that could have an adverse effect on the final product.
This process is extremely important for a high quality restoration. It requires skill, properly engineered equipment, and good judgment. Palmetto Restorations has invested a great deal of money in research, training, and equipment so that we can strip bodies and parts without harming the surfaces. Many parts have textures that can be altered using sand blasting or even glass bead blasting, and our process is designed to protect these pieces. Our Media Blasting Process is performed within a 15' x 30' brightly illuminated and fully ventilated enclosure where our operators work under ideal conditions with the best equipment available.
